Adjustment Disorder
Description
An emotional or behavioral reaction to a stressful event or change in a person's life. The reaction is considered an unhealthy or excessive response to the event or change and occurs within three months of the event.

- Frequent crying
- Worrying or feeling anxious, nervous, or stressed out
- Trouble sleeping
- Lack of appetite
- Withdrawing from social support
- Difficulty functioning in daily activities
Common Causes
- A significant life stressor, such as a divorce, job loss, death of a loved one, or a serious illness.
Treatment Information
Psychotherapy is the main treatment to help learn coping skills and resilience. Medication may be used short-term to help with symptoms like depression or anxiety.
