Chlamydia
Description
A common sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by bacteria. It can infect both men and women and can cause serious, permanent damage to a woman's reproductive system, making it difficult or impossible for her to get pregnant later on.
Common Symptoms
- Often asymptomatic ("silent" infection). When symptoms occur, they can include abnormal vaginal discharge or a burning sensation when urinating in women, and discharge from the penis or burning urination in men.
Common Causes
- Infection with the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis, spread through sexual contact.
Treatment Information
Can be easily cured with antibiotics. All sexual partners should be treated to prevent re-infection.
