Influenza (Flu)
Description
A highly contagious viral respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses. It can cause mild to severe illness, and at times can lead to serious complications like pneumonia. Symptoms are typically more intense and have a more abrupt onset than the common cold.

- Sore throat
- Runny or stuffy nose

- Fatigue
- Vomiting and diarrhea (more common in children)
Common Causes
- Infection with influenza A, B, or C viruses, spread through respiratory droplets from coughs, sneezes, or talking.
Treatment Information
Rest, fluids, and over-the-counter medications for symptoms. Antiviral drugs like oseltamivir (Tamiflu) can be prescribed. Annual vaccination is the primary method of prevention.
