Leishmaniasis
Description
A parasitic disease caused by a parasite Leishmania. This parasite is transmitted through the bites of infected female phlebotomine sandflies. The disease has several forms, with the most common being cutaneous (causing skin sores) and visceral (affecting internal organs).
Common Symptoms
- Cutaneous: Skin sores that can start as bumps or lumps and may end up as ulcers.
- Visceral: Fever, weight loss, enlargement of the spleen and liver, and anemia.
Common Causes
- Infection with Leishmania parasites transmitted by sandfly bites.
Treatment Information
