Lyme Disease
Description

Common Symptoms
- Early: Erythema migrans (bullseye rash), fever, chills, headache, fatigue, muscle and joint aches.
- Late: Severe headaches, neck stiffness, additional rashes, facial palsy (like Bell's palsy), arthritis, heart palpitations, nerve pain.
Common Causes
- Infection with the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi, transmitted by the bite of an infected Ixodes tick (deer tick).
Treatment Information
A few weeks of oral antibiotics (doxycycline, amoxicillin) is effective for early stages. Intravenous antibiotics may be needed for more severe or neurological cases.
