Description
A condition that causes an uncontrollable urge to move the legs, usually because of an uncomfortable sensation. It typically happens in the evening or nighttime hours when sitting or lying down. Moving eases the unpleasant feeling temporarily.

Common Causes
- The cause is often unknown. It may be related to an imbalance of the brain chemical dopamine. Low iron levels can also be a trigger. There is a strong genetic component.
Treatment Information
Treating an underlying iron deficiency can relieve symptoms. Medications include dopamine agonists, drugs affecting calcium channels, and opioids.
