Strep Throat
Description
A bacterial infection in the throat and tonsils caused by Streptococcus pyogenes, also known as group A streptococcus. It is highly contagious and most common in children, characterized by a sudden and severe sore throat.
Common Symptoms
- Throat pain that comes on quickly
- Painful swallowing
- Red and swollen tonsils, sometimes with white patches or streaks of pus
- Tiny red spots on the roof of the mouth
- Fever
- Swollen lymph nodes in the neck

- Infection with Streptococcus pyogenes bacteria, spread through respiratory droplets.
Treatment Information
Treated with antibiotics (like penicillin or amoxicillin) to reduce the duration and severity of symptoms and prevent rare but serious complications like rheumatic fever.
