Toxoplasmosis

Severe toxoplasmosis can cause damage to the brain, eyes, or other organs, and is a major risk for those with weakened immune systems and for babies whose mothers were infected during pregnancy.

Common Causes

  • Infection with the parasite Toxoplasma gondii.

Treatment Information

Most healthy people don't need treatment. For pregnant women or immunocompromised individuals, treatment with medications like pyrimethamine and sulfadiazine is necessary.
